Sending tyres – parcel or pallet?

Choose the option that suits your shipment.

Parcel shipping

Parcel shipping

For parcel shipping, the consignment must be rectangular: place the tyre into a suitable box, fill any voids, seal securely.

🎯 Ideal for: single and high-value tyres
Freight forwarding – on a pallet

Freight forwarding – on a pallet

For large and heavy tyres. Placed on a pallet, wrapped and strapped down – ensuring complete sets arrive safely too.

🎯 Mandatory for: lorry tyres (R22.5), tractor and agricultural tyres.

How to read your tyre size

The size is shown on the tyre sidewall, for example 205/55 R16.

Reading tyre size: width, profile and diameter on the tyre sidewall (195/65 R15)

205 = Width (mm)

The first number is the tyre width in millimetres.

55 = Aspect ratio (%)

The second number is the aspect ratio of height to width as a percentage.

R16 = Inches (rim)

The number following the R is the rim diameter in inches. Cars and SUVs go up to 22 inches.

Frequently asked questions about GLS tyre shipping

No. For GLS tyre shipping, you do not need a rectangular cardboard box. It is sufficient to place cardboard discs over the open sides, strap the tyres together, and wrap them in stretch film.
Stack two tyres on top of each other, strap them together, and wrap them in stretch film. This turns four tyres into just two parcels – halving your shipping costs.
The size is printed on the tyre sidewall, for example 205/55 R16: 205 is the width in mm, 55 is the aspect ratio in percent, and 16 is the rim diameter in inches. Enter these values into the tyre calculator.
Car and SUV tyres up to 22 inches can be sent as GLS parcels, provided weight and dimensions stay within limits. In contrast, 22.5 inches (R22.5) is a lorry size and can only be shipped via freight forwarding.
Lorry and tractor tyres are too large and heavy for the parcel network and are shipped exclusively via freight forwarding on a pallet. Cover and wrap a single tyre – this can also be done as a loose individual item via freight.
A car tyre weighs around 7–15 kg depending on size, and a complete wheel weighs 16–25 kg. SUV tyres and complete wheels are heavier. You can find detailed guide values in the weight table on this page.
