Shipping tyres – boxed parcel, unboxed or on a pallet?

Choose the method that best fits your shipment.

Shipping in a box

Shipping in a box

For standard parcel shipping, the package must be cuboid: place tyres in a suitable box, fill any voids, and seal securely.

🎯 Ideal for: individual and high-end tyres
Freight forwarding – on a pallet

Freight forwarding – on a pallet

For large and heavy tyres. Place onto a pallet, wrap and strap – ensuring even complete sets arrive safely.

🎯 Mandatory for: lorry tyres (R22.5), tractor and agricultural tyres.
Shipping without a box

Shipping without a box

Stack tyres, place cardboard discs on the top and bottom, cross-strap and wrap in stretch film – no cardboard box required.

🎯 Ideal for: tyre sets and complete wheels

How to read your tyre size

The size is embossed on the tyre sidewall, for example 205/55 R16.

Reading tyre sizes: width, profile and diameter on the tyre sidewall (195/65 R15)

205 = Width (mm)

The first number indicates the tyre width in millimetres.

55 = Profile / aspect ratio (%)

The second number is the ratio of sidewall height to tyre width as a percentage.

R16 = Rim diameter (inches)

The number following the 'R' is the rim diameter in inches. Car and SUV tyres go up to 22 inches.

Frequently asked questions about tyre shipping

No. You do not need a cuboid cardboard box for tyre shipping. It is sufficient to place a cardboard disc over the opening, strap the tyres together, and wrap them in stretch film.
Stack the tyres in pairs of two, strap them together securely, and wrap them in stretch film. This turns four tyres into just two parcels – halving your shipping costs.
The size is embossed on the sidewall of the tyre, e.g. 205/55 R16: 205 is the width in mm, 55 is the profile aspect ratio in per cent, and 16 is the rim diameter in inches. Enter these values into our tyre calculator.
Car and SUV tyres up to 22 inches can be shipped as a GLS parcel, provided weight and dimensions stay within the permitted limits. By contrast, 22.5 inches (R22.5) is a commercial lorry size and can only be shipped via freight forwarding.
Lorry and tractor tyres are too large and heavy for standard parcel networks and must be shipped on a pallet via freight forwarding. Cover the tyre opening with cardboard and wrap in stretch film – also possible as individual loose items.
A standard car tyre weighs around 7–15 kg depending on size; a complete wheel weighs 16–25 kg. SUV tyres and complete wheels are heavier. You can find detailed guideline values in the weight table on this page.

Notes on weight guidelines

All weights are guide values and serve as an orientation. The actual weight depends on the model, type (summer, winter, all-season), reinforcement (XL, run-flat) and the rim used. Please weigh the shipment for a binding quote.
